Twinkle Khanna’s banner to debut with Akshay Kumar’s ‘Padman’
Akshay Kumar, who has the most releases in a year among his contemporaries, shared his line-up of films for 2017 on New Year day. While ‘Jolly LLB 2’, ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’ and his Tamil debut ‘2.0’, were already know, the new revelation is the fourth project titled ‘Padman’.
‘Padman’ is the film that will mark the debut of Akshay’s wife Twinkle Khanna’s production banner Mrs Funnybones Movies. The former actress, who turned a columnist and successfully impressed readers with her writing skills, is set to make a comeback to Bollywood as a full-fledged producer.
Akshay, in a series of tweets, shared the names of the films with their images, followed by the tweet, “Busy summing up the year gone by? It's time to not look back, but look ahead. Here's what my 2017 looks like.Ur thoughts,love & luck needed.”
The first look image of ‘Padman’ in blue backdrop has an image of a sanitary pad and has details like ‘Cotton 100%’ and ‘Fresh’. It comes with the tagline ‘based on an extraordinary true story’.
Twinkle later took to her Twitter handle to reveal that film has been written and directed by R. Balki. She tweeted, “Mrs Funnybones Movies - first production -written and directed by the brilliant Balki -Pad up and get ready! https://twitter.com/akshaykumar/status/815506853325115396 …”
The film is said to be based on one of the stories from her latest book, ‘The Legend of Laxmi Prasad'. The film’s story is said to be about Arunachalam Muruganantham, who campaigned extensively for menstrual hygiene in rural India, and came to be known as India’s ‘Menstruation Man’. ‘Padman’ will chronicle his quest and experiments of making affordable sanitary napkins for women in his village. The film reportedly, also star Sonam Kapoor, Radhika Apte and Amitabh Bachchan in a special role.
Twinkle has previously co-produced Akshay’s films like ‘‘Tees Maar Khan’, 'Thank You', 'Patiala House', ‘Khiladi 786’, and 'Holiday: A Soldier is Never Off Duty'.
