Akshay Kumar's 'Baby' marching fast towards 100 crore club


The Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Baby’ is very close to completing the 100 crore race. The film’s box office collections have been simply huge and are expected to only grow. Currently, the film stands at 87.27 crores. The film was released on 23rd January and had quite a good start. The first day pulled enough crowd to collect 9.3 crores. On the second day, ‘Baby’ raked 11.17 crores. The stellar success continued and the film had collected a whopping 50.97 crores by the end of four days since its release.

‘Baby’ stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role of Ajay Rajput, a security agent. The supporting roles are played by  Danny Denzongpa, Rana Daggubati, Anupam Kher, Taapsee Pannu, Rasheed Naz, Madhurima Tuli and Kay Kay Menon. It is a Neeraj Pandey directorial and produced by Bhushan Kumar.  The action thriller is about a counter-terrorism organization called ‘Baby’ that is lead by Danny Denzongpa. This secret team comes into operation after the Mumbai 26/11 attacks and does all it can to prevent any further attacks. Other than India, the film has been shot in Abu Dhabi, Nepal and Istanbul as well.

‘Baby’ has been receiving excellent reviews since the first day of its release. Renowned critics and leading newspapers can’t stop praising this thriller. Film critic Subhash K. Jha said, “Baby is one helluva roller-coaster ride. Miss it at your own risk.” The Times of India also had a great opinion about the film, “Akshay Kumar is terrific as Ajay whose core of steel you can almost feel.” While “A gripping espionage thriller that eschews drama and jingoism” was what The Hindu described ‘Baby’ as.

The New Indian Express too praised the film, “ that near-perfect textbook espionage thriller we have been dying to see: straight and business-like, fast-paced, without frills, and immaculately detailed to the point of occasional verbosity.” Hindustan Times called the film, “sleek, well-timed and engaging” and gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Yahoo Movie was another one to give it 4 stars and wrote, “The film deals with a definite conflict, backs it up with a coherent plot trajectory and delivers a compelling resolution.”

Though ‘Baby’ is being loved in India, the Pakistani censor board has banned the film. The censor boards of Karachi and Islamabad feel that the film offends Muslims, “it portrays a negative image of Muslims and the negative characters in the film also have Muslim names.”
