Akshay Kumar, Sidharth Malhotra to act in ‘Warrior’

It seems that Sidharth Malhotra’s Bollywood career is about to receive a big boost.   The actor is slated to star alongside the ‘Khiladi of Bollywwod’ Akshay Kumar in a film. To add to the incentives, the film is being produced by Karan Johor making it a project to watch out for. If this film is a success it can become a big turning point in the career of the young actor.

The new film has been tentatively given the title ‘Warrior’ and is said to be based around two brothers.  If reports are to be believed, it is a remake of the 2011 Hollywood film also titled ‘Warrior’.  The movie featured Joel Edgarton and Tom Hardy in the lead roles as brothers who enter a Mixed-Martial arts tournament and face each other. Akshay Kumar has extensive training in various forms of martial arts and often showcases his skills in his movies. On the other hand it will be interesting to see how Sidharth, who has a romantic image, copes with such a physically demanding role.   The film will be a joint venture between Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and production house, Endemol. The rein of direction will be in the hands of ‘Agneepath’ director Karan Malhotra.  A source close to the production has said, “The script of the first half is ready and will be given to Akshay for a read next week. Then, KJo, Akshay and Punit will have another meeting to flesh out the second half.” Locations for the shoot will be finalized within August and the film is most likely to go to the floors at the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar is awaiting the release of his latest film ‘Holiday’, an action thriller. His last two ventures ‘Boss’ and ‘Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai Dobara’ failed to set the box office on fire. So the ‘Indian Jackie Chan’ is putting his high hopes on this film.

Sidharth Malhotra, on the other hand, has been enjoying his two film old career so far. His debut film was termed failure by critics but it was commercially successful, ‘Student of the Year’ in 2012. His second film was the 2014 romantic comedy, ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’. His performance was praised by the critics and his chemistry with Parineeti Chopra was also noted. The film also managed to become commercially successful at the box office despite being much smaller in scale than his debut film.
