Akshay Kumar roped in for Priyadarshan, Rohit Shetty joint venture

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has been roped in to star in comedy filmmakers Priyadarshan and Rohit Shetty’s upcoming joint venture. The two filmmakers who are known for their slapstick comedies had announced their uniting for a project in September this year.

"Priyadarshan is giving finishing touches to the script of his next Bollywood project and has already signed Akshay for it. This director-actor combination has tasted great commercial success and this is poised to be their eighth film together. It will be a big-budget affair with Rohit Shetty backing it," a Midday report quoted a source.

Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan had earlier worked together in films like 'Hera Pheri' (2000), ‘Bhagam Bhag’ (2006), 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' (2007), ‘De Dana Dan’ (2009), ‘Khatta Meetha’(2010) etc.

The new project, which will go on floors early next year, will also be the Malayalam director’s Bollywood comeback film after a gap of two years. His last Hindi film was Jacky Bhagnani starrer ‘Rangrezz’.

It will be the first collaboration of Priyadarshan and Rohit Shetty. While Priyadarshan will be directing the film, Rohit will serve as its producer.

When contacted, Priyadarshan said "The script has been finalised and rest of the casting is being discussed. It will be a musical comedy; my comeback after a two-year break from the Hindi film industry."

Many of Priyadarshan’s Bollywood films like ‘Hulchal’, ‘Singham’ and ‘Billu’ were remakes of South Indian films. However, he didn’t reveal whether the new film would be another remake.

Akshay Kumar, who is shooting in Jaisalmer for his next, and Rohit Shetty remained unavailable for comment. A source close to the actor, however, confirmed the news.
