Ajay Devgn signs 400 crore deal with Star India
Recently Ajay Devgn signed up a Rs. 400 crore deal with the general entertainment channel Star India. The deal is that the channel will have the exclusive satellite rights for all the upcoming movies of the actor up to 2018. This means all the new films of Ajay Devgn for the coming five years that will include a minimum of ten films. It is a smart move on the part of the channel as Ajay is the only actor after Salman Khan to have his four movies in the exclusive Rs. 100 crore club. The channel already have the satellite right for his earlier eighteen movies such as, ‘Gangajal’, ‘Singham’, ‘Zameen’ and the popular ‘Golmaal’ series.
Earlier Salman penned a similar deal of five years with the channel. According to a source, "After Salman's deal, Devgn is the next superstar to sign such a huge deal. The agreement is for five years and will roughly have around 10 of his films. Ajay is one of the most popular guys in satellite business as some of his recent films have done tremendous business. Films like Bol Bachchan, Singham, Son Of Sardaar and the Golmaal series have not only crossed the Rs 100 crore mark but have also generated huge TRPs on satellite channels."
The upcoming new movie of Ajay Devgn is ‘Himmatwala’ which is being directed by Sajid Khan. This is the first movie for which the channel will get the satellite rights. According to the source, "The next is Prakash Jha's Satyagraha followed by an action film with Prabhu Deva and a sequel to Rohit Shetty's Singham. Besides Devgn's upcoming films, the network already has 18 of his earlier films including Singham, the Golmaal series, Zameen and Gangaajal."
What about the producers of his movies? Will they be willing to sale the satellite rights of their films to Star? Ajay Devgn commenting on the subject said, "Business is becoming increasingly open and clear, so it's easier to deal directly. I am securing the producer a higher value, so he benefits eventually, as they often depend on satellite rights to garner a substantial amount of the cost of production. But I am also ensuring a certain amount for myself. For the rest, like actors' fees, etc., all depends on the relationship between an actor and the producer."
We wish all the best to Ajay on this deal. It seems the big
screen hero is all set to dominate the small screen too.
