Aishwarya-Randeep to play brother-sister in ‘Sarabjit’ biopic

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda will play siblings in Omung Kumar’s ‘Sarabjit’ biopic. Randeep has been confirmed to play the male protagonist, prisoner Sarabjit while Aishwarya has been confirmed to play Dalbir Kaur, Sarabjit’s sister. The movie will be produced by Sandeep Singh and actor-writer Zeeshan Quadri.

“Randeep Hooda will be playing Sarabjit in the movie,” Singh said. “He has essayed outstanding performances in the past, and we are very confident that he will do justice to this role. I am sure the audience will look forward to seeing Aishwarya and Randeep play brother and sister.”

Sarabjit Singh was a farmer who was accused of spying in India. He has been convicted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan for a series of attacks in Lahore and Faisalabad that killed 14 bystanders in 1990. His case garnered interest in both India and Pakistan. His sister Dalbir made many attempt to prove his innocence, but she failed to bring her brother back to India alive.

“Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is playing the role of Dalbir Kaur,” Singh said. “The role demanded a very strong character with a powerful aura, and Aishwarya perfectly fits the bill. After co-producing ‘Mary Kom,’ I have realized that content-driven films are my calling. This film will create an impact and inspire the audiences as well as the youth worldwide.”

On the work front, Aishwarya is making her comeback with Sanjay Gupta's 'Jazbaa' starring Irrfan Khan in the male lead.
