Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan finally tie the knot

The big day has finally arrived and the bride Ash and groom Abhi are contented and happy to tie the knot. The festivities began on 18 April and will culminate with the wedding on 20 April. There was revelry and celebration bollywood style for the sangeet, mehndi and now for the wedding too. Only a select few like Ajay Devgan, Kajol, Sanjay Dutt, Preity Zinta, Suniel Shetty, Sonali Bendre etc from bollywood were invited for this happy but private occasion. The media and crazy fans were kept at bay. However no one could exclude themselves from this joyous occasion and fans from all over the city trooped in to catch a glimpse of Ash, Abhi and other bollywood celebs.
The sangeet was complete bollywood style with both the Rais and Bachchans as well as their friends putting up dance performances. The highlight of the sangeet was a dance performance put up by Ash-Abhi and another dance performance by Amitabh-Jaya. There was plenty of laughter, food and happiness all around the couple. On the day of the wedding, the baraat left Jalsa to move towards the venue of the wedding, Prateeksha at 4 pm. The guests were taken by bus but en route the groom got off the bus and climbed onto his white horse. Abhishek wore a heavy white outfit filled with beautiful work and his face was covered with the traditional flowers. But no one could miss Abhi’s enthusiasm and happiness as he swayed to the music along with his baraatis who danced en route to Prateeksha. Abhi’s sister Shweta was also seen gyrating with the baraatis while dad Amitabh was supervising the entire event. Amitabh did seem a bit exasperated though when his guests spent too much time dancing as erratic fans seemed very keen to join them.

Finally the baraatis reached the venue and the mahurat for the wedding was 5.30 pm. The rituals began and the wedding had both Ash’s south customs as well as Abhi’s north Indian customs incorporated. There was no Kanyadan (where the bride is given away by the father) as it is not a custom followed in the South to which Ash belongs. There was the North Indian style exchange of garlands, then there was also some customs according to the South, Bunt style. There was a sindoor ceremony and the saat pheras. Ash looked resplendent in a kanjivaram saree adorned with diamond jewelry and flowers in her head. Jalsa and Prateeksha too were decked out with flowers. There were high security measures both around and within the venue for the wedding due to the VIP guest list. Traffic almost came to a halt while the baraat was en route, fans clamored for a glimpse of stars and the media too tried to get a piece of all the action. The auspicious ceremony took place in private with only close friends and family and the reception too was extremely private. No doubt though that the guests were extremely well taken care of by the Bachchans. Well congratulations to Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, we wish them a happy life together!
