After ‘Sparsh’, ‘Mohra’, Naseer goes blind again in ‘Welcome Back’

Actor Naseeruddin Shah who will be seen in upcoming comedy flick ‘Welcome Back’ will be playing the role of a blind don. The actor had earlier enacted the role of a visually impaired man in the 1980 film ‘Sparsh’ opposite Shabana Azmi. The film fetched him his first National Award for Best Actor.

Thereafter, he played the negative role of a bilnd man in the 1994 action thriller ‘Mohra’. But the Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty starrer film had a twist. Just before the climax, it was revealed that his cunning character was only acting blind.

Now after 21 years, the ‘Finding Fanny’ actor will once again essay a play a blind man in the Anees Bazmee directed sequel of the 2007 super hit comedy ‘Welcome’. But his character in the film is a far cry from what he portrayed in ‘Sparsh’ or ‘Mohra’.

“Naseerji has gone blind again after more than 20 years, and while in ‘Mohra’ it was a part of a shrewd act, things are much lighter in Welcome Back,” an entertainment portal quoted its source. “Since this is an out and out action comedy by Anees Bazmee, even Naseer is joining the fun. Though his part is that of a deadly don, he brings in a lot of laughs with his blind antics,” the source added.

“It is all meant to be a humorous affair. The character played by him in particular throws logic out of the window. Sometimes you have to let go of logic as long as people are having fun,” according to the source.

Director Anees said ‘Welcome Back’ is a different sort of film and so the acting of Naseer’s blind character was different. “As this deadly don ‘Wanted Bhai’, he is so smart that even those with eyes can get amazed with how he moves with so much style and elegance. In fact despite being blind, he goes on to establish and maintain this big empire. His act brings in so much comedy and all credit to him for bringing on another level of acting,” the director said.

‘Welcome Back’ also stars Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal, John Abraham, Shruti Haasan and Dimple Kapadia among others. The film releases on September 4.
