‘Padman’ marks the production debut of Akshay’s wife Twinkle Khanna. Twinkle produced the film under her production banner Mrs Funnybones Movies. The former actress, who turned a columnist and successfully impressed readers with her writing skills, is set to make a comeback to Bollywood as a full-fledged producer.

The film is said to be based on one of the stories from her latest book, ‘The Legend of Laxmi Prasad'. The film’s story is said to be about Arunachalam Muruganantham, who campaigned extensively for menstrual hygiene in rural India, and came to be known as India’s ‘Menstruation Man’. ‘Padman’ will chronicle his quest and experiments of making affordable sanitary napkins for women in his village.

The film stars Sonam Kapoor, Radhika Apte and Amitabh Bachchan in a special role. ‘Padman’ directed by R Balki is scheduled to release on January 9.
