Aditi Rao Hydari to romance Ranveer Singh in ‘Padmavati’


Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s project ‘Padmavati’ will have three principal characters played by Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. Deepika and Ranveer will not have any scenes together, while Shahid, who plays Deepika’s on-screen husband, will, reportedly, have some romantic scenes with the actress.

But Ranveer will get to romance another actress who will play the ‘Befikre’ actor’s on-screen wife. According to reports, Bhansali has roped in Aditi Rao Hydari for the role of Ranveer’s character Alaudin Khilji’s favourite begum (wife) Kamla Devi, in the period film.   

“There have been several meetings that between Bhansali and Aditi and the director has finally decided on Aditi over four other choic es. At the moment, the cos tumes and set designs are being finalised and the film rolls by November-end,” Mumbai Mirror quoted a source close to the developments.

History has it that Alaudin Khilji’s army invaded Gujarat in 1297 and captured queen Kamla Devi, wife of king Karandev II, who later married the Sultan.

‘Padmavati’ is based on Rani Padmavati of Chittor and wife of king Rawal Ratan Singh. Sultan Alauddin Khilji was so besotted by her beauty and intellect that he attacked the kingdom to claim her. The movie about Padmavati’s courage and sacrifice and how she saves her honour.

'Padmavati' is slated to release in December, 2017.
