Actress Roopa Ganguly joins BJP

The ‘Mahabharat’ fame actress Roopa Ganguly has joined Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). A function was recently held in Howrah district near Kolkata. At this function, the Bengali actress joined the political party. The senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley, who is also the Union Finance Minister, was present at the occasion. At Sarat Sadan, the minister was seen handing over the BJP flag to the new member of the party and formally accepting her into BJP.

When the actress was asked about the reason for stepping into the political world, she said that she wanted to contribute towards the development of the nation, “Why shouldn't I? Should I only sit at home and criticise? Why shouldn't I actually do something about it? Why shouldn't I try? I want to do some good and work for the development of my country.” She admitted that she has joined the party for the benefit of people around her. She further told the media, “I follow some principles. I am very straight forward. I try to do at least one good deed every day. And try to come to the aid of people. I try to make them smile. I believe in drawing a thick line between right and wrong...then it would be easy to do politics.”

The actress gathered significant fame through the epic television series ‘Mahabharat’. She was praised for her role of ‘Draupadi’. She is a well known face due to her presence in the recent TV series like ‘Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo’ and ‘Karam Apnaa Apnaa’. Besides the small screen, she has also shown her talent in films like ‘Padma Nadir Majhi’ released in 1993, 1995 movie ‘Yugant’ and 2005 release ‘Antarmahal’. Moreover, she has proved herself as a potent singer too. She received National Film Award in the Best Female Playback Singer category for ‘Abosheshey’, the Bengali film released in 2012.

He then rejoined on 2nd December last year and was inducted by the party president Amit Shah. Another famous personality is the popular singer Babul Supriyo, who also joined the party last year. But the most significant figure in this context is the Bengali actor George Baker. He joined the party in 2014, and even contested in Lok Sabha Elections during the Indian general election the same year. He has been a prolific actor in both Bengali and Assamese filmdom.
