‘Ramayan’ actor Mukesh Rawal found dead on railway tracks
Veteran actor Mukesh Rawal, best remembered for playing the role of Vibhishan in Ramanand Sagar’s television series ‘Ramayan’, was found dead on railway tracks on Wednesday morning (Nov16).
The 66-year-old actor apparently died after being hit by a speeding train, while he was on his way for a dubbing session, on Tuesday. His body was recovered from railway tracks between Borivali and Kandivali railway stations at around 9:33 am on Wednesday. The Government Railway Police (GRP) rushed the victim to Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead at 11.30 am, according to agency reports.
Rawal's body was identified by the actor’s son-in-law Jayesh Barbhaiya, when the deceased’s family filed a missing complaint.
"Initially, we could not find anything on the body to identify. Railway Police had issued his photographs at all police stations. His son-in-law came at the Kandivali railway station in search of Rawal, who had gone missing. The officials sent him to a hospital where he identified the body," Niket Kaushik, commissioner of Railway Police, was quoted by PTI.
Rawal's daughter Arya Barbhaiya claimed his body and his final rites were conducted on Wednesday night.
The GRP has registered an accidental death report in the matter, and the actor’s family has ruled out any possibility that he may have committed suicide.
"We recorded the statement of the motorman of the train that knocked down Rawal. He confirmed that the man was crossing the tracks when the train hit him," deputy commissioner, GRP, Deepak Devraj was quoted as saying.
Besides the mythological show ‘Ramayana’, Rawal had also been part of several other TV shows and Gujarati films. At the time of his death, the actor was working in Gujarati TV serial ‘Nass Nass Mei Khunnas’.
