‘Action Jackson’ earns 28 crore in the opening weekend

Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha starrer ‘Action Jackson’ collected Rs 28 crore in the opening weekend which is below the expectation. The film had collected Rs 9.25 crore in the opening day, Friday but on Saturday, the box-office graph goes down instead of showing an upward trend. It only collected Rs 8.25 crore.

Exhibitor Rajesh Thadani feels the negative word-of-mouth worked against the movie. "Rs 28 crore is very poor considering the film's cost. The reports of the film has been bad so far and we expect to see a major drop in the collection from Monday onwards."

Trade analyst Amod Mehra said, "Ajay Devgn has been doing films like 'Golmaal' or action films and it is high time he reinvented himself. With the film releasing in nearly 4,000 screens, the collection of the film is extremely disappointing. The film's collection was not up to the mark on Friday and dropped drastically on Saturday and even further on Sunday. Looking at this trend it was clear that audience rejected the film."

The other two movies released on the same, Friday — 'Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain' and 'Sulemani Keeda' — also had a dull opening weekend.

Vishal Anand of Fun Cinemas added, "Action Jackson was disappointing at the box office for us at Fun Cinemas. In fact, we had high hopes with this film considering this was a massy one and would pull a lot of people but that was not the case."

The box-office numbers are showing a downward trend for the past two months and now the exhibitors are pinning high hopes on Aamir Khan’s ‘PK’.  "November was sad and now the first week of December has been disastrous. Our hope (as exhibitors) now rests on 'pk'," muses Thadani.
