Abhishek Bachchan receives Yash Bharti Award, top Uttar Pradesh state honour

Abhishek Bachchan was recently given the Yash Bharti Award by Minster of Uttar Pradesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav at an awards ceremony in Lucknow where 11 others were also conferred with the award. The awards are one of the top most honours in Uttar Pradesh and along with the award Rs.5 lakhs and a citation is given to the awarded. Abhishek Bachchan is the fourth amongst his family members to receive this award. Earlier on his grandfather Harivansh Rai Bachchan was given this honour. Abhishek was extremely happy and proud to receive this honour.
Abhishek along with his parents Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan were present at the event along with good family friend Samajwadi party leader Amar Singh. However recently there were protests from youth groups and other political parties in the state of UP stating that there were other more deserving candidates that should have been nominated for the award. Others also saw the move as a political one to gain the Bachchans constant support in the forthcoming polls which will be held next year. Abhishek said “I am a part of the third generation of Bachchans and today with the blessings and teachings of my grandfather, Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan, I humbly accept this award.” Abhishek also decided to donate the Rs.5 lakhs cash prize to the state Hindi Sansthan. The award was instituted by the state in 1994-95 and has been conferred on 54 prominent public personalities since then.

Abhishek Bachchan has been making a slow and steady rise in bollywood with his films. He will soon be seen in Sanjay Ghadvi’s Dhoom 2 and then in Mani Ratnam’s Guru by the end of the year. He has a few projects lined up for next year too apart from a worldwide concert along with dad Amitabh Bachchan.
