Aamir Khan to portray astronaut Rakesh Sharma in his next?


Superstar Aamir Khan who played the role of an alien in his 2014 blockbuster ‘PK’ will be travelling to space in his next film. According to reports, the actor will be seen essaying the role of Astronaut Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian to go to space, in his next movie.  

An entertainment site quoted a source as saying, “Aamir will play Rakesh Sharma in his next film. He is all set to move from playing a pehalwan (in ‘Dangal’) to now going out to the space."

Rakesh Sharma was a pilot of the Indian Air Force, who used a Soyuz shuttle to go into space by the joint efforts of ISRO and the Soviet Intercosmos.

However, there has not been any official announcement in this regard.

Meanwhile, a leading national daily has contradicted the report saying that there is no substance to the rumours of the actor playing astronaut Rakesh Sharma. The report quoted Aamir’s publicists as saying, “There is no truth to this story at all. It's completely untrue.”

Aamir will be next in seen in sports biopic ‘Dangal’ which is loosely based on Haryanvi wrestler Mahir Singh Phogat, father and coach of Indian women wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari Phogat.

Aamir will portray the character of the wrestler, while actress Sakshi Tanwar will play the role of his wife. Newcomers Fatima Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra will play the couple’s daughters Geeta and Babita respectively. Rajkummar Rao will also feature in the film.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, ‘Dangal’ is slated to release on December 23.
