Aamir Khan gives mahurat shot of Sonam Kapoor’s Neerja

A host of Bollywood superstars Including, Aamir Khan, Vidya Balan, Boman Irani, Anil Kapoor and director Rajkumar Hirani visited the sets of upcoming film ‘Neerja’, a biopic based on the life of Pan Am flight attendant Neerja Bhanot who sacrificed her life to save passengers.

In fact, Aamir gave the Mahurat shot for the film in which actress Sonam Kapoor plays the role of the daredevil woman Neerja.

The visit by the celebs was, of course, not because they have guest appearances in the film, but to boost the cast and crew who are working hard on the sets.

The film’s director Ram Madhvani had invited the stars to interact and motivate the 220 cast playing passengers of the ill-fated flight who required sitting for long hours during the shoot.

“I knew that getting Aamir Khan, Boman Irani, Vidya Balan, Raju Hirani and Anil Kapoor to speak to the 220 cast would help instil dedication and effort that this film would require,” the director said in a statement adding, “I am also very touched that Aamir gave the Mahurat shot of our film.”

Ram further said, “Years in advertising have taught me that they weren’t just background cast. They not only had to act in a believable real way, but also understand the responsibility of what we were doing.”

He said he wanted to make the cast feel what the real passengers felt, how they went through the 16-hour ordeal of being hijacked. “As a director, I knew it was critical for the featured cast to get motivated to give the film everything they had emotionally and for them to believe in the film and to do justice to the memory of those who died.”

Pan American Airways flight attendant Neerja Bhanot lost her life while saving passengers from terrorists on board the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73 on 5 September 1986. Posthumously, she became the youngest recipient of the Ashok Chakra Award, India's most prestigious gallantry award for bravery during peace time.
