Aamir Khan sets new benchmark, ‘PK’ enters 300 crore club

Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer, ‘PK’ has crossed 300 crore mark at the box-office and the entire ‘PK’ team is ecstatic about the film’s performance. ‘PK’ has invited multiple controversies but still the film has won the heart of the cine-goers. Audience showered immense love on the film and made ‘PK’ the biggest blockbuster of Bollywood.

In just three weeks of its release, ‘Pk’ has crossed 300 crore mark at the domestic box-office and inching towards 600 crore mark at the international market.

Aamir Khan’s movies have been creating benchmark for quite sometime. His film ‘Ghajini’ was first to enter 100 crore club. Rajkumar Hirani’s directed and Aamir Khan starrer ‘3 Idiots’ was Bollywood’s first film to make Rs 200 crore at the domestic market. His movie ‘Dhoom 3’ was the first to collect Rs 500 crore worldwide.

In 2014, Salman Khan’s ‘Kick’ made a total of Rs 200 crore and became the top grossers of 2014. In 2013, Dhoom 3 collected Rs. 265 crore on the ticket counter and ‘Chennai Express’ collected around Rs. 258 crore in the domestic markets.

Suniel Wadhwa, an independent distributor and a box office analyst, says, “For the third weekend in a row, PK continued to be an unstoppable force at the box office, doing big business over the New year weekend after brisk business during the Christmas weekend.

The drop in week 2 (from week 1) was around 45 per cent.

This is also the biggest second-week collection by a movie, surpassing Dhoom 3’s  second week record, which was Rs 65 crore net box office, while PK did Rs 95 crore.”

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani and co-produced with Vidhu Vinod Chopra in association with Disney’s UTV Motion Pictures, 'PK' was released in 4,000 screens across India on December 19. The film stars Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma in the pivotal roles and has Sanjay Dutt in the special appearance.
