A R Rahman once again in race for Oscars 2017
Two-time Academy Award winning composer A R Rahman is once again in the race for the prestigious award, with his name figuring in the initial nomination list of Oscars 2017. The music maestro has been listed for his work in ‘Pele: Birth of A Legend’.
This time, Rahman will be competing with 145 others for a nomination in the Best Original Score category at the 89th Academy Awards. His popular song ‘Ginga’ from the same biographical film on the Brazilian football legend, has also been shortlisted in the Original Song category, along with 91 other songs.
The initial list of contenders for both the categories was released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on its official website on Tuesday.
The final nominations for the 89th Academy Awards will be announced on January 24, 2017. The presentation ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 26, 2017 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood and Highland Centre in Hollywood.
Earlier, Rahman won two golden statuettes for his work in the 2009 blockbuster ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, directed by British filmmaker Danny Boyle. He had won the Oscars for the Best Original Score and Best Original Song, ‘Jai Ho’, at the 81st Academy Awards.
