A quick-look at Shahid-Mira’s wedding journey

Shahid-Mira wedding had made headlines ever since news broke out earlier this year that Shahid Kapoor would be tying the celestial knot with Mira Rajput.

Shahid and Mira exchanged wedding vows in a traditional Punjabi ritual in a farmhouse in the outskirts of Delhi on July 7. The ceremony was a private affair in attendance of only family members, close friends and the spiritual leader of Radha Soami Satsang Beas of which both the families are followers.

Post the private ceremony, a grand dinner party was held at the Grand Ballroom of The Oberoi Hotel in Gurgaon, which was reportedly attended by about five hundred guests.

Shahid had also introduced his new bride to the media in a photo opportunity after the wedding. He also shared his first selfie with his wife on Instagram for his fans.

Shahid’s parents Pankaj Kupur, Supriya Pathak and Neelima Azim arrived a day ahead of the wedding on July 6 and their guests also poured in at the Trident Hotel where fifty rooms were booked and the grand Presidential suit was blocked.

The actor also flew down from Mumbai just in time for the ‘sangeet’ ceremony and other pre-wedding rituals. The ‘sangeet’ was an elaborate affair and special as Shahid and Mira danced to some hit songs of the actor’s films and performed a specials couple dance and shared a hug after their performance.

Prior to ‘sangeet’, bride-to-be Mira had her ‘haldi’ ceremony followed by ‘kaleera’ and ‘chooda’ ceremonies. She glowed in a bright yellow dress and floral garland and received blessings from her elders.

All these functions culminated to Shahid and Mira becoming man and wife.

The actor and his family kept the wedding preparations under wraps, but the scoop-hungry paparazzi were not to be stopped. Tidbits about the wedding were revealed little by little.

According to reports, the menu for the post wedding reception in The Oberoi comprised of complete vegetarian spread of Indian and continental cusine, as it was attended by the families’ ‘guru’. The guests were also treated to a variety of paans like dry fruits-filled khajoor paan and chocolate dipped paan.

Mumbai-based designer Kunal Rawal prepared Shahid’s wedding wardrobe with lot of ethnic wear like bandgala, achkans and sherwanis, while Mira’s wedding outfit was designed by fashion designer Anamika Khanna. Reports also mentioned that the couple wore colour co-ordinated outfits. The couple looked lovely in their simple and elegant outfit.

Shahid likes simplicity and it was evident from the wedding card that leaked online few days before the wedding. The designer of the card Ravish Kapoor said the actor was very particular about the font and colour and had also asked him to make limited use of gold. It was also Shahid’s idea to keep tea bags in the boxes and honey bottles.

Shahid’s respect for women was also revealed when he asked the designer to include the names of both his biological mother and step mother above his father’s name. He had also asked that the initials ‘S’ and ‘M’ should be placed either together or ‘M’ should be put above ‘S’.

While Shahid being a celebrity is used to being followed by the media, Mira who is said to be a shy and intelligent girl avoided being in the limelight. In fact, she had even deactivated her Facebook account and gone off social media. "She has completely deactivated her Facebook account. She was getting too many friend requests, and got sick of all the attention," Pinkvilla.com quoted sources as saying.

The couple’s alliance was arranged by their parents who are followers of the same faith. Shahid had also met his future wife on a few occasions. However, Mira had second thoughts about getting married to the celebrity, the reason being the age difference between the two. Shahid is 34 years old while Mira is 21. As Bollywoodlife.com reported, it was Mira’s elder sister who convinced her for the marriage.

The newly-weds are now in Mumbai where they will be hosting a reception party for the actors industry friends on July 12 at Palladium hotel, reports said. The invitation card for the party has also been by Ravish. The royal blue card which also got leaked on the social media contains a security pass for the invitees.
