37th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) kick started in Goa

The 37th International Film Festival of India kick started on 23 November in the land of sun, sand and surf, Goa. The event saw a number of bollywood celebs making their presence felt and even performing at the event. The event began when veteran actor Shashi Kapoor and actress Vidya Balan were asked to begin the event by lighting the lamp together. Vidya was extremely touched that she was asked to light up the lamp with none other than the veteran actor Shashi Kapoor. I & B Minister Priyaranjan Das Munshi and Goa CM Pratap Singh Rane were also present for the lighting of the lamp. Several other bollywood celebs like Anil Kapoor and producer Boney Kapoor were seen.
There were several performances which rocked the first day of the event, Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra gave a dazzling performance for the audiences and Bipasha Basu sizzled in her item number. At the event Bips said “I love Film festivals because they are a celebration of Cinema. The festival is important to me as Corporate will be screened.” Several other films will also be screened at the event. Unfortunately Priyanka could only perform her act and then had to leave as she was busy with shooting schedules; hence she was disappointed that she would not be able to catch any of the prominent film screenings at the event. Actress Esha Deol danced to her hit number from Dhoom and also shook a leg with dance king Prabhudeva which she claimed was simply fantastic.

Singer and composer Bappi Lahiri also performed a medley of beautiful Bengali and bollywood tunes at the opening ceremony of the event. Actor Anil Kapoor looked dapper in a suit and said “It’s our very own festival in Goa, that’s what makes it special.” Actor Shreyas Talpade was also present at the event and a Marathi film starring the actor was to be screened at the event. He was keen to catch up on many other films that would be screened at the festival. Director Madhur Bhandarkar too was present for the festival and claimed that he enjoyed Goa, its beautiful beaches and the Goan food. In the coming days the festival will have loads of entertainment in the form of a fashion show by designers Manish Malhotra, Vikram Phadnis, Shahid-Amir and Seema Khan. There will also be a concert by singer Sonu Nigam and a tribute to the great singer R.D.Burman by composers Shankhar, Ehsaan and Loy.

The event will be held for two weeks and will see many international celebrities too making their presence felt. The film festival along with the terrific ambience of Goa is a great combination and hopes to attract some great response for the IFFI this year.
