Chhapaak

Megha Gulzar’s ‘Chhapaak’ pictured on acid- attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal is out for the audience to experience the trauma and triumph of acid-attack survivor in general. It is a story of only one victim but it narrated the story of the entire clad who has gone through the pain of the attack and its aftermath.

Meghna choose Deepika Padukone to portray the role of Laxmi and we can say her choice is absolutely correct as Deepika enacted the part of Laxmi with sheer confidence and with full heart.

‘Chhapaak’ is a beautiful and inspiring story to be converted into celluloid.

The story of ‘Chhapaak’ is based on Laxmi Agarwal, played by Deepika Padukone. Deepika’s character is named Malti. Everything was going fine in the life of 19-year-old  Malti until she was brutally attacked with acid by a man double her age. He wanted to establish romantic relationship with her but her one denial burnt her life. But this is not the end of her dreams and aspirations.

Malti was a fight and she did not lose heart. He fought the battle of acid attack with full strength.  With courage, she has faced all the obstacle, chauvinism, discrimination, multiple surgeries, etc. Malti not only fought her own battle but she also turned a social crusader against sale of acid in the country.

Meghna Gulzar has made a heart wrenching film and she excels.

Deepika Padukone has set a benchmark. She was incredible in the film. Vikrant Massey and Madhurjeet Sarghi as Deepika's lawyer was top-notch. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy music is a winner.

Last but not the least, Clover Wootoon deserves huge round of applause for Deepika’s prosthetic. It was so real and unbelievable.

‘Chhapaak’ is not an entertaining masala movie. It is a disturbing watch as it makes us to think how women are subjected to barbaric attack everytime. But, ‘Chhapaak’ also narrates real pain and trauma of a person who goes through in such situation. It is a wonderful watch and wins heart. ‘Chhappak’ is above all ratings and box-office figures.
