Farah Khan is the daughter of Menaka Khan and Kamran Khan. She is Saajid Khan, the well known host, comedian-turned-director’s sister. She was born on January 9th in 1965.
Farah’s mother is screenplay writer Honey Irani’s sister. Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar are her cousins.
Farah learnt dance on her own and set up her own troupe. She was inspired by the Thriller video by MJ. She was studying Sociology in St. Xavier’s, Mumbai. After Saroj Khan walked out on Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander(1992), Farah got the chance to choreograph the song “Pehla Nasha” which catapulted her to stardom. She met Shahrukh Khan on the film set of Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and continues to be good friends with him.
Farah Khan has won the Best Choreographer award at Filmfare, six times. For the song, Idhar Chala, she won the National award. She has won international fame for Monsoon Wedding and Bombay Dreams. She has worked in a Chinese movie Perhaps Love.
Farah Khan has been seen regularly on the small screen. She was a judge in Indian Idol seasons 1 and 2 and had her own talkshow Tere Mere Beach Mein. She has worked with international performers like Kylie Minogue and Shakira.
Farah Khan turned director with the 2004 hit Main Hoon Na, starring Shahrukh Khan. She won the Best Debutante director award for it. She has gone on to make the super successful Om Shanti Om in 2007. Her last movie Tees Maar Khan failed at the box office.
She is married to editor Shirish Kunder.
