Traffic Signal is centered around a signal in Mumbai . where all kinds of people live, survive, jostle and yet remain human. Silsila is a young man, on the wrong side of the law but with a heart of gold. He manages the business around the signal which includes the street kids who survive by begging off the streets. 'Paaya', the beggar boy, 'Dambar, the newspaper boy, and ' Tsunami', the jet black beggar boy from Andhra, are the ones really close to him. Silsila is also in love with a young girl who has just come to the city to pursue her small business. Silsila works for a local Mafioso for whom he is even ready to lay down his life. Things go on smoothly till an honest engineer arrives to prevent the building of a flyover in the vicinity. Silsila is asked by his boss to bump the engineer off. Silsila dutifully do the needful only to realize that the builder politician nexus will actually uproot the lives of the street kids and all those who survive by the signal. Finally Silsila takes on the system with the help of the street kids who adore him.
