Its success was mainly attributed to Madhuri Dixit because of her crazy fan followers, and this was the next release of her after Hum Aapke Hain Kaun which was the highest grosser of Bollywood ever from 1994 until 2001. People wanted to call this film Rani instead of Raja. It was the fourth highest grosser of the year at the box office, and Madhuri Dixit was called the female Amitabh Bachan of Bollywood in many magazines including India Today. It ran in Mumbai as well as in other big cities like Bangalore for more than 30 weeks in theaters. Madhuri Dixit received a Filmfare Best Actress Award nomination, and won the Star Screen Award Best Actress for the year. The film had excellent music score by Nadeem-Shravan.
