He has worked with Vishal Bharadwaj in nearly all his films in the capacity of a co-writer or an assistant director. His notable contributions to Vishal Bharadwaj's films include Omkara (2006), and Kaminey (2009), which he co-wrote. He made his directorial debut with Ishqiya (2010) starring Naseeruddin Shah, Vidya Balan and Arshad Warsi. In this interview with Tehelka he discusses the contemporary moment in Hindi cinema, writing scripts in collaborations and the emergence of the 'rural-cool'.
