Will Smith visits India and Bollywood


Famous Hollywood actor, and Grammy Award winner Will Smith is in India and has launched Sony Entertainment Television’s (SET) English movie channel- Pix. Pix will telecast classic Hollywood movies and other programmes on movie making. Will Smith has starred in the famous comedy serial Fresh Prince of Bell Air, he has also starred in movies like Men In Black, Ali and Six Degrees Separation which have gained him popularity.
While in India his main agenda is meeting people and visiting places, he also wanted to get acquainted with the bollywood factory, one of the largest entertainment industries. He visited Film City in Goregaon, Mumbai and met with directors Vidhu Vinod Chopra, UTV’s Ronnie Screwwala, Adlabs Manmohan Shetty and Karan Johar. He was shown around film city and was keen to know more about the workings of bollywood. According to Karan Johar he was well informed and entertaining. He was genuinely interested in the Hindi film industry and there was a give and take of ideas on cinema. There was no definite talk of Will acting in any particular Hindi movie.

Will Smith claims that he would like to explore a possible collaboration between Hollywood and bollywood. He has a long-standing association with Sony and when he was presented with the opportunity to visit India he readily accepted. His favourite actress whom he would have loved to meet is Aishwarya Rai; he claims she has a powerful energy. He is also a big fan of Amitabh Bachchan and has watched his movie Sarrkar.

Will Smith is also slated to appear on Sony’s hit show Indian Idol 2, he will be seen encouraging the participants of the show. He will be seen along with Karan Johar on this show, which is basically a talent hunt for the best voice in India. Sony is currently hosting Will Smith’s stay in India.

Actor and former Miss India Pooja Batra is also a part of Will Smith’s team visiting India. They have a friend in common, Hitch producer James Lassiter, who introduced them. Once Will Smith’s team’s plans to visit India were finalized, they asked her to join them; she was excited and immediately agreed. Pooja made a name in bollywood after her performance in the movie Virasat; she has recently done Taj Mahal, which Will is keen to see.

A small intimate get together was hosted by Fardeen Khan and his wife Natasha for Will Smith. The guest list included the likes of Abhishek Bachchan, Laila Rajpal, UTV’s Ronnie Screwwala, Sony’s Kunal Dasgupta and Ambika Hinduja. Will is also accompanied by his son Trey and they first made stopovers in Delhi and Agra. They have visited the Taj Mahal and find it absolutely beautiful. We hope that Will’s visit to India is one of may more to come.
