What’s going on in Marathi movie industry?
Is Marathi Cinema the new in, with B-Town biggies like the Bachchans, Salman Khan and Ritiesh Deshmukh getting attracted to it? Well..the news is that ‘Singham’ star Ajay Devgn has followed their lead and has ventured into Marathi Cinema.
With ‘Singham Returns’ hitting the theatres this Friday 15th August 2014, Ajay Devgn plans to showcase the first look of his Marathi film in the prints of his much awaited Bollywood sequel. Ajay has even announced his upcoming Marathi movie’s name which will be ‘Viti-Daandu’. This news was revealed by Ajay Devgn during a press conference held for promotion of his upcoming movie ‘Singham Returns’. Ajay is also going to produce the movie under his banner Ajay Devgan Films (ADF).
Playing a Maharashtrian on screen has worked well for Ajay Devgn in the ‘Singham’ franchise. And now the actor-producer is taking his association with regional cinema to a new level by venturing into Marathi movies.
Maybe, Ajay’s love for Marathi Cinema can be credited to the fact that Devgn’s mother-in-law Tanuja is basically from a Marathi family and his marriage with Kajol was also done in traditional Maharashtrian style. Due to these reason he might be attached with Marathi culture and wants to work in Marathi films, but whatever is the reason one thing is confirmed that Marathi audience will definitely get a treat as Ajay is a superstar of Bollywood and known for his action as well as comedy movies.
Directed by Ganesh Kadam, ‘Vitti Dandu’ is a periodic drama which revolves around the triumph of love for the country over attachments for a loved one. This story is about the relationship between a grandfather and a grandson. The movie stars Dilip Prabhavalkar, Ravindra Mankani, Yatin Karyekar, Radhika Deore (child artist), Nishant Bhavsar (Child Artist), Shubhankar Aatre (Child Artist), Mrunal Thakur and Ashok Samarth.
The music is given by Santosh Mulekar and is produced by Leena Deore. It is slated to release by the end of the year.
However, currently Ajay is far too busy with the promotions of ‘Singham Returns’ to talk about anything else. Ajay feels that Bajirao Singham is the quintessential desi hero, and a country such as India needs several Singhams. "Singham's anger has increased as the complications and problems around him have amplified," says Ajay.
While Ajay will be seen doing dramatic action scenes, co-star Kareena Kapoor Khan will be liberally using Marathi slang. Singham's favourite anger expression, ‘Aata majhi satakli’, will be mouthed several times by Kareena instead of Ajay in the sequel.
