Watch: Shweta Basu Prasad stars with Naseeruddin Shah in short film
Former child artiste Shweta Basu Prasad has featured in a short film titled ‘Interior Cafe Night’, alongside veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah and Shernaz Patel. She is also credited as the film’s co-producer.
Shweta won the National Award at the age of 11 for her performance in the 2002 film ‘Makdee’ and has also starred in television serials ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki’, ‘Kutumb’, ‘Karishma Ka Karishma’ etc. as a child artiste. Shweta was accused of being involved in a prostitution racket in 2014, but was later acquitted of the charges. The film marks her return to screen after the controversial incident.
Shweta has previously worked with Naseeruddin in Nagesh Kuknoor’s 2005 film ‘Iqbal’.
‘Interior Cafe Night’ has been directed by Adhiraj Bose. As the title suggests, the short film is set in the interior of a cafe in Kolkata at night time.
The story is about ex-lovers Naseeruddin Shah and Shernaz Patel who come across each other after 30 long years. Naseeruddin is the owner of the café and it is almost closing time. He spots his former lover who left him years back when her family shifted to London. However, she has got a job in Nainital and is moving there the following day.
Simultaneously on a nearby table, young lovers Shweta Basu and Naveen Kasturai are parting ways as the girl is leaving the city. Her father has been transferred and her family is shifting to the new location. The boy is helpless and cannot think of a way to stop her from going away.
Shweta and Naveen portray the younger version of Shernaz and Naseeruddin. Years ago, he could not stop his girlfriend from leaving him, now that she is back will he be able to stop her?
The 13-minute-video plays out and winds up beautifully.
