Vidya Balan gets emotional
National award winning actress Vidya Balan is very happy to have been selected for Padma Shri award. The announcement of the awardee list was made on the eve of the 65th Republic Day. The awards will be presented by the President of India during March/April.
Vidya was at her emotional best, as she heard the announcement. An overjoyed Vidya said, “I'm thrilled. I'm overjoyed. I'm overwhelmed. I'm honored. I'm humbled...! I'm running out of words to express my feelings and gratitude.”
Vidya further said, “To be receiving this honor from the government of my country is a matter of great pride for me and I dedicate this award to my family who make me, me!
Vidya Balan has played roles of women protagonists in a number of movies. She has portrayed strong women character in movies like ‘Ishqiya’, ‘Paa’, ‘The Dirty Picture’, ‘No One Killed Jessica’ and ‘Kahaani’.
Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian award, awarded by Government of India. It is rewarded to Indian citizens for their eminent contributions in various spheres of like including Arts, Literature, Education, Industry, Sports, Social Service, Medicine and Public Affairs.
In 2012, Vidya was awarded with National Award for her critically acclaimed movie ‘The Dirty Picture’. Though 2013 was not a great year for the actress professionally, yet this year Vidya will reach a major milestone with Padma shri. Last year Vidya acted in ‘Ghanchakkar’ but the movie failed to impress audience and critics. Vidya started her career from small screen and her first serial was ‘Hum Paanch’.
Apart from Vidya, film maker and cinematographer Santosh Sivan’s name was also announced for Padma Shri. He said, “It's a great feeling. I am very happy and excited. I have been flooded with calls since it was announced. It's good to get all these congratulatory messages from my near and dear ones.”
Sivan is known for making period movies like Asoka, Before The Rains and Urumi.Sivan further added, “For me the thing which is most important is that whenever we receive an award your heart must believe in it.”
Theatre and film veteran Paresh Rawal has also been named for the Padma Shree award. He started his career in films in 1984 and has come a long way finessing varied roles as comedian, villain, and supporting actor.
Kamal Hassan will receive the award of Padma Bhushan. Crickter Yuvraj Singh will receive Padma Shri award.
