Ustad Amjad Ali Khan's UK visa denied, expresses shock
Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan took to his micro-blogging site to express shock over the denial of UK visa. This said news came a day after Shahrukh Khan was detained at Los Angeles airport. Amjad Ali Khan was scheduled to perform at the Royal Festival Hall in September but his visa was rejected.
In a series of tweets, Amjad Ali Khan expresses his shock over visa rejection and also tagged Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, the Indian High Commission in London and the British High Commission in New Delhi.
Khan said that since the early 1970s, he has been performing abroad every year but this time his visa rejection highly saddened him.
On September 17, Amjad Ali Khan was scheduled to take part in a reflection of his decades-long career as one of the icons of the sarod. On September 18, he was planned to be part of a double-bill concert with Hindustani classical vocalist Shubha Mudgal.
After Shahrukh Khan tweeted about his detention at Los Angeles airport in a series of tweet, US envoy to India Richard Verma and senior US State Department official Nish Biswal apologised the superstar for facing hassle at the airport.
