U'khand HC stays Rakesh Roshan’s arrest in ‘Krrish 3’ plagiarism case

The Uttarakhand High Court has stayed the arrest of filmmaker and former actor Rakesh Roshan till 19 September in a copyright violation case, an official said on Wednesday.

Dehradun-based writer Roop Narayan Sonkar had lodged an FIR on May 21 against Rakesh Roshan accusing him of copying some parts of his novel ‘Suardan’ for the story of the latter’s 2013 film ‘Krrish 3’.

Appearing on behalf of the celebrated filmmaker, advocate Aman Rab requested the court to quash the FIR, which it refused. Justice U C Dhyani on Tuesday asked the police not to act against Rakesh Roshan till 19 September and added that the court will take a decision then if he should be arrested or not, according to agency reports.

Rakesh Roshan has, however, denied any copyright infringement and said ‘Krrish 3’ script was his original.

Earlier in 2013 before the movie hit screens, a Madhya Pradesh resident, Uday Singh Rajput had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court claiming that he had written the script for ‘Krrish 3’ and was denied credit for it.

‘Krrish 3’ is the third part of ‘Krrish series’ and was a hit at the box-office. It starred the producer-director’s son Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Vivek Oberoi in the lead.

Reports also suggest that Rakesh Roshan was also accused by a model-turned actor for plagiarizing his work for the upcoming movie, ‘Kaabil’ starring Hrithik and Yami Gautam.
