Two days box-office collection of 'Raja Natwarlal'

Emraan Hashmi's films usually have a good buzz surrounding them and although the buzz with his latest ‘Raja Natwarlal’ was strong enough the film according to reports just did average business at the box office. Along with Hashmi, the movie also stars debutant Pakistani model and actor Humaima Malick, who plays Emraan’s love interest in the film.

The movie, which released on Friday, 29th August 2014 is directed by Kunal Deshmukh who has worked with Emraan Hashmi in the ‘Jannat’ series. Paresh Rawal, Kay Kay Menon and Deepak Tijori are also a part of this flick.

It is a crime comedy film directed by Kunal Deshmukh and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur under UTV Motion Pictures. A murderous, cricket-obsessed tycoon from Cape Town is conned into buying a cricket team that doesn’t exist. ‘Raja Natwarlal’ is the story of that con. It is one of those films with immense potential, but that fails to sparkle.

As per the initial reports, the film managed to get Rs 5.5 to Rs 6 crore approximately. The report however also mentions that the actual data on the films' collections was still pouring in and that this may not be the final figure for the first Friday.

‘Raja Natwarlal’ is a film that most of the Bolywoodlifers have been eagerly waiting for. The movie was expected to fare very well at the theatres. The movie was expected to get off to a decent start and be able to pull up at least Rs 20 crore in the opening weekend.

The film released on Friday on the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi and that may have worked against the film's box office collections. The celebrations may have kept people away from the cinema halls especially in Maharashtra, where the festival is celebrated with all its spirit.

Raja Natwarlal has opened to slow start of 25% across India, probably because it doesn't boast of super hit music or heavy duty promotion that is in general seen now a day for all Bollywood releases.

In terms of content, the movie isn’t out of the box, but this Kunal Deshmukh directorial is important for Emraan, who has been going through a string of flops. His last few films like ‘Ek Thi Dayaan’ and ‘Ghanchakkar’ haven’t fared well in the box office.

Hopefully, the film will benefit from the extended weekend and no major releases this week. Good luck Emraan and Humaima..we wish your movie picks up at the box-office fast!
