Trailer: Nawazuddin as a mountain man, Radhika his wife in ‘Manjhi’

The trailer of Ketan Mehta’s upcoming film, ‘Manjhi-The Mountain Man’ featuring Nawazuddin Siddhiqui and Radhika Apte was released online. In the film, Nawazuddin plays the coveted role Manjhi and Radhika Apte plays his dutiful wife Paghunia.

The biopic is based on the true story of Dashrath Manjhi (also famous as ‘the mountain man’), a poor laborer in the remote Gehlaur village of Gaya (Bihar), who single-handedly carved a path through a mountain using only a hammer and chisel in memory of his deceased wife.

This is an extraordinary story of an ordinary man of strong spirit. Manjhi’s wife dies miserably slipping from the mountain while trying to get food for her family. Manjhi is unable to get medical aid for her as the nearest doctor was about 70kms away and the path was extremely dangerous. After he lost his wife, Manjhi took the initiative to carve the route through the mountain so no other person has to travel through the dangerous path ever again.

The first part of the trailer shows Nawazuddin and Radhika as a lovely, happy-go-lucky couple. The second part focuses on Manjhi's transition to the gritty and serious 'Mountain Man' who risk his life to pave a path though the rocky, dangerous mountain for the benefit of the locals.

‘Manjhi- The Mountain Man’ will hit theatres in August.
