Top five Bollywood actors in patriotic roles
Our freedom fighter fought bravely against the British, gave their life for the generation to come. Their contribution to the motherland and the people of India is indescribable and unmatchable. We salute their sacrifice and our Bollywood stars makes a small attempt to pay tribute to the martyrs on this special day though their outstanding performance.
There is a long list of actors who through their acting tried to bring alive their sacrifice on celluloid but we bring to you top five actors who mesmerize one and all with their rave performance.
When we talk about Bollywood and patriotism, the first name that strikes our mind is Manoj Kumar who is also popularly known as Manoj Bharat Kumar for his patriotic roles. When we talk about patriotic films then Manoj Kumar starrer ‘Upkar’, ‘Purab Aur Paschim’ and ‘Kranti’ immediately comes to our mind. He has been bestowed with awards such as the Padma Shri Award, Phalke Ratna Award, Best Director Award, Best Actor Award and many more for his exceptional contribution to Indian Cinema.
Perfectionist Aamir Khan also makes a slight attempt to salute our brave martyrs. He played sepoy Mangal Pandey in the movie, ‘Mangal Pandey: The Rising’. He grew long hair and big moustache to get into the character. His film ‘Rang De Basanti’ also evokes patriotism. The film was highly acclaimed by critics and audience and the movie bagged many awards.
Ajay Devgan paid a tribute to the freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in the movie, ‘The Legend Of Bhagat Singh’. The film speaks how he and his group fought against the British Raj and strive to achieve independence. Unfortunately, the film could not do well at the box-office but Ajay’s acting was appreciated and the film won two National Film Awards, including the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi, and three Filmfare Awards.
In the same year the Deol brothers, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol played two revolutionists Chandrashekhar Azad and Bhagat Singh in ‘Shaheed’. Directed by Guddu Dhanoa, the movie depicts the events leading up to the hanging of Indians Rajguru and Sukhdev. Unfortunately, the film could not impress the audience.
Usually, we are accustomed to see Shahrukh Khan as a lover boy but in Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘Swades: We The People’ we get to see the patriotic side of Shahrukh Khan. In the movie, he plays Mohan Bhargava an NRI working at NASA as a Project Manager. Although Swades flopped at the Indian box-office, it was a huge success at the overseas. The film was featured on Rediff’s list of the 10 Best Bollywood Movies of the Decade.
