In the audience’s list the choice of best comedy films are many and diverse. The name that is on the fifth position is that of ‘All the Best-Fun Begins’. This Rohit Shetty directed comic flick released in October 2009 and went on to become one of the highest grosser of the year. The film starred actors Ajay Devgan, Fardeen Khan and Sanjay Dutt as the male leads while Bong beauty Bipasha Basu and Mughda Godhse featured as the female leads. Sanjay Dutt’s work was appreciated at the IIFA Awards that year and he bagged the award for Best Actor in a Comic Role.
4. Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani
The next name on the ascending side of the ladder is that of Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani’. Under the banner of Tips Films, this blockbuster of 2009 gathered much headlines including the story of an upcoming affair between Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, the lead pair of the film. The plot revolved around Prem and Jenny who find soul mates in each other amidst a lot of confusion and comic situations. Pritam’s music added the much needed romantic flavor to the film and Ranbir Kapoor was awarded the Filmfare Critics Award for his stupendous performance.
Sajid Khan’s ‘Housefull’ is on number three in our list of comedy films. This Akshay Kumar--Deepika Padukone starrer made records at the box office and the film usurped gross revenue of 95 crores. It also starred Ritesh Deshmukh and Lara Dutta in a supporting cast. Deepika’s bikini avatar gathered much hype besides the superhit music of the film. It received significant critical acclaims and a handful of nominations in the popular award ceremonies. The film’s sequel has been confirmed by producer Sajid Nadiadwala and would be soon on the floors this year.
2. Three Idiots
The first runner up is the history creating film of 2009…..Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Three Idiots.’ Based on Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone, the film pointed a finger at the conventional thought processes of the society. Aamir Khan played the role of Rancho, the protagonist while Sharman Joshi and Madhavan played the roles of his two friends. Kareena Kapoor was seen essaying the role of Pia, Rancho’s lady love. The film managed to earn more than 300 crores and won almost every award in the country including three National Awards.

The Rohit Shetty directed 2010 release ‘Golmaal 3’ is the topper! It is the sequel to Golmaal and Golmaal Returns and starred the comedy wagon of Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor, Arshad Warsi and Tusshar Kapoor. As the cast of the film puts it, ‘Golmaal’ is indeed a brand now and its brand power is evident from the response the film has been getting throughout. The title song of the film by Pritam is Golmaal’s anthem and the audience seems to be swearing by it. Ajay Devgan was awarded the 2011 Star Screen Award for his performance in the film.
