Tight security outside Amitabh Bachchan’s three bungalows
Burying the five years old hatchet, megastar Amitabh Bachchan joined hands with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray. Rivals turned friends shared dais at the seventh anniversary of MNS's movie industry wing 'Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Karmachari Sena' at the Shanmukhanand Hall in Central Mumbai last week. This association did not go well with the workers of Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Security officials sensed disturbance following the patch-up and they deployed high security outside Big B’s three bungalows.
"As a precautionary measure, we have deployed our men at Jalsa, Prateeksha, Janak - three bungalows of Bachchan," a police officer told PTI.
Patrolling in the area has been stepped up, the officer said, adding that, "as the SP and BSP are upset with the patch-up between Thackeray and Amitabh, their workers may resort to any activity disturbing law and order. Hence we are alert and deployed our personnel outside the bungalows."
Wife and veteran actress Jaya Bachchan was also targeted when she once remarked that being hailed from UttarPradesh, she preferred to speak in Hindi rather than in Marathi.
Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi had said that Amitabh Bachchan's appearance at the MNS function was an "insult" to the north Indians. According to police sources, BSP had indicated to the authorities that it would stage a demonstration outside the actor's bungalow.
The enmity between Raj Thackeray and Big B dates back to 2008, when Amitabh Bachchan accepted the proposal to be the brand ambassador for Uttar Pradesh. This move had drawn flak from the MNS Chief who maintained that Bachchan being the star that he is, he should not lean towards any state but should maintain a secular position. Thackeray was seen saying, ‘I have always felt in the past 100 years, there has not been an actor as big as Bachchan. He is the brand ambassador of the whole nation, not just any state.’ Amitabh Bachchan was seen appreciating the comment graciously with a smile. He asked the people to forget everything that had happened in the past saying that it had been immersed in the Ganges River. This drew a massive round of applause from the spectators. Thackeray was seen saying that people like Bachchan and Lata Mangeshkar were sent by God and did not belong to any specific region, but were much bigger than that”.
