The first day box-office collection of ‘Nautanki Saala’
The new offering from Rohan Sippy, ‘Nautanki Saala’ released on 12th April 2013 across India. The expectations were high from the film as it was Ayushmann Khurrana’s second outing, after ‘Vicky Donor’. Ayushmann did a great job in his debut movie and won the hearts of the fans and critics alike.
The movie ‘Nautanki Saala’ belongs to the romantic comedy (romcom) genre. The Rohan Sippy directed film is all about comedy of errors. It has its fair share of comic moments but the screenplay lets the audience down. The dialogues in the movie too have great potential but could not deliver the desired effect.
‘Nautanki Saala’ is an official remake of the super hit French film ‘Apres Vous’. Though the original released in 2003, nothing much of its essence has been changed in the 2013, Indian remake. This is a movie meant for the multiplexes.
However, the ongoing IPL season has obviously diminished the box office performance of the film. On the opening day the response to the film was very low, the occupancy volume was as less as 15% in few places of India. Besides the action movie ‘Commando’ that released alongside ‘Nautanki Saala’ is also drawing a good crowd in both multiplexes and single screens across India. This also has an adverse effect on the collection of the Rohan Sippy movie.
The box office analyst, Rajesh Thadani stated about the movies, “All-India, I am expecting Commando to cross Rs 3.5 crore and in Mumbai it will earn around Rs 1.25 crore because most of the evening shows are house full. Reports of the film are also good and it should generate great returns over the weekend. On the other hand, Nautanki Saala! hasn’t turned out to be as good a product as expected. It did not open well and hasn’t grown across today. It might reach Rs 2.5 crore all-India and in Mumbai Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore.”
As the reports pour in from all parts of India, it is evident that ‘Nautanki Saala’ hasn’t done well on the first day. It remains to be seen whether the movie can pick up at the box office in the coming days. The word of mouth campaign seems to be the last hope for the movie. Incidentally Ayushmann’s ‘Vicky Donor’ also did ride high after getting a boost from good word of mouth reviews from the viewers.
