Tamil actor Vijay’s father hospitalised; undergoes spine surgery


Tamil actor Vijay’s father and noted filmmaker S.A. Chandrasekhar was rushed to a hospital in Kottayam after he slipped and suffered injuries in head and spine on Wednesday, August 24. The 71-year-old filmmaker had to undergo a surgery immediately.   

According to reports, Chandrasekhar was in Kerala for discussion of a new film project. He slipped and fell in the bathroom at Royal Grove Resorts, Kumarakom, where he was staying. The accident occurred at around nine O’clock in the morning.   

Two assistant directors rushed him to Bharath hospital, Kottayam, where doctors conducted an emergency surgery.

“Injuries were on his head and cervical spinal cord. However, he is able to move his body parts. There is no fracture on spines. We have started medication and patient is stable as such,” Dr Anees, Neurosurgeon at the hospital was quoted as saying by a publication.

Reports suggest that he passed the critical condition, but doctors have advised him complete rest for four days and is under close observation of the medical team. His son Vijay will be arriving at the hospital shortly.

Chandrasekhar made his directorial debut with Sattam Oru Iruttarai and has directed over 70 movies in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. He has also appeared in supporting roles in some movies like ‘Naan Sigappu Manithan’.

Vijay, who starred in 2015 fantasy-drama ‘Puli’ alongside Sridevi, Hansika Motwane and Shruti Haasan, made his acting debut under his father's directorial ‘Naalaya Theerpu’ in 1992. He will be next seen in the yet-untitled film being directed by Bharathan.
