 Despite the halfhearted response from the Swades (homeland) and mixed reviews, Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Swades – we the people was greeted with overwhelming responses overseas.
As told by the co-producers and overseas distributors of Swades, the film has
grossed $424,804 on 74 screens in just three days of its release in North America.
At $6,667, Swades has recorded the third largest per screen average defeating some of the big Hollywood flicks such as Polar Express, The Incredibles and Ocean’s Twelve.
Moreover, in Dubai, the film has crossed $175,000 in its opening weekend, which is considerably higher than Yash Raj Chopra’s Veer-Zaara, another Shahrukh Khan starrer.
