‘Sultan’ reaches Rs 300 cr; Director Ali Abbas celebrates with a unique cake
Superstar Salman Khan’s big release ‘Sultan’ and finally entered the Rs 300 crore club. The movie which saw Salman as Haryanvi wrestler, hit theatres on July 6 on Eid and collected the amount in 35 days on Tuesday, August 9.
While Salman is currently busy shooting for Kabir Khan’s film ‘Tubelight’ in Ladakh, the film’s leading lady Anushka Sharma, who also played a wrestler name Aarfa, is also in the Caribbean spending time with her beau Virat Kohli.
Hence, the rest of the ‘Sultan’ team, including director Ali Abbas Zafar celebrated the achievement in a unique way. For the celebration, they ordered cakes in the shapes of numbers ‘3’ and ‘0’ so that when put together, it made ‘300’.
The director took to his Intagram page and shared the picture of the ‘number’ cake which looked delicious. “Lovely cake #thanks#yrf#sultan,” he captioned it.
‘Sultan’ has now become the third film to have collected Rs 300 crore, after Aamir Khan starrer 2014 film ‘PK’ and Salma’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. Anushka has also become the only actor in Bollywood who has featured in two films in the coveted Rs 300 crore club.
Following the super success of ‘Sultan’, Ali Abbas has now planned to make a sequel to Kabir Khan’s 2012 blockbuster ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. The sequel is titled ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ and Salman will reprise his role. While Katrina Kaif played the female lead in the first film, the name of the lead actress for the sequel is yet to be announced.
The makers have planned to release ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ on Eid, 2018, as ‘Tubelight’ is already slated for Eid, 2017.
