Statue of Rajesh Khanna to be unveiled at Bandstand Promenade
Today as family, friends and fans observe the 1st death anniversary of legendary actor late Rajesh Khanna, a statue of the actor will be unveiled at the film capital of India. The statue will be unveiled at Bandstand Promenade in Mumbai on 18th July. However, the installation of the statue will take place early next month. The statue of Rajesh Khanna will be placed alongside prominent Bollywood personalities like Yash Chopra, Ran Kapoor and Dev Anand.
Entertainment channel UTV Stars will unveil the statue of Rajesh Khanna to commemorate his charismatic style and sociable personality. “UTV Stars will commemorate Rajesh Khanna's inimitable style and charismatic smile in a life-size brass statue. The brass statue will immortalize one of his iconic poses from his films and will be unveiled by the actor's family amongst well-known names from the industry.” read a statement from the channel.

Last year on 18th July, 2012, superstar Rajesh Khanna passed away after being critically ill for some time. He passed away at his residence ‘Aashirwaad’ in Mumbai. He was 69 years old.
The term ‘superstar’ was originally coined for Rajesh Khaana after he became the heartthrob of 70’s. Rajesh Khanna was born as Jatin Khanna in Amritsar on December 29, 1942. He was the adopted son of his parents. Rajesh Khanna and actor Jeetendra studied in the same school and same college. They were very good friends.
After having a long time relationship with costume designer Anju Mahendru, Rajesh Khanna married actress Dimple Kapadia in 1973. At that time she was only 16 years old. They had a huge age gap of 15 years between them. However the couple separated in 1984. They never took official divorce. The couple has two daughters, Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna. They both appeared in few movies.
Rajesh Khanna made his debut in 1966 with movie ‘Aakhri Khat’. The film received mixed reviews from audience. He was appreciated for his acting in ‘Baharon Ke Sapne’. In 1969 Rajesh Khaana appeared with Sharmila Tagore in ‘Aradhana’. Their chemistry was liked a lot and this on-screen couple became an instant hit. Singer Kishore Kumar gave his voice to Rajesh Khanna for songs in a series of movies. Between 1969 to 1972, actor gave 15 hit movies which is a Bollywood record till now. In the early 90’s, he served as MP for five years from New Delhi constituency. Between 2008-2012, he also appeared in a television serial. After that he fell ill and left us on 18thJuly 2012.
