SRK to be honoured with French distinction

Many Hollywood celebrities have been conferred with this French distinction and now bollywood's King Khan is all set to join the league. Shahrukh Khan has been chosen by the French government to be honoured with the distinction of Officer dans l'Ordre des Arts et des letters (Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters). SRK has been honoured with this distinction for his outstanding contribution to bollywood as well as his influence all over the world.
A special ceremony will be held where SRK along with a few others will be felicitated by the French government. And SRK may be presented the award by either the French President Nicolas Sarkozy who is visiting India or the French ambassador Jerome Bonnafont. The event will be held on January 27 which will also mark the opening of the prestigious French Film festival. This prestigious French distinction is conferred on people who have distinguished themselves by their creativity in the field of art, culture and literature or for their contribution to the influence of the arts in France and throughout the world. No doubt SRK has excelled as an actor and he has also made bollywood popular in various other countries including France.

A member from the French Embassy in India added "SRK is very popular in France. Few years back when he was in Paris for the premiere of Veer-Zara, he was staying in the same hotel as Tom Cruise. There was a sea of young girls outside the hotel and naturally the guards thought that they had come to see Cruise, but were surprised too see them rooting when SRK came out." Amongst other well known Indians who have been bestowed with this French honour is Arundhati Roy (writer) and international celebrities like George Clooney, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis etc have been bestowed this distinction.
