Soonam Kapoor is the eldest daughter of Anil Kapoor -an actor of par excellence and is the granddaughter of Surinder Kapoor - an eminent filmmaker. Soonam Kapoor was born and raised in Mumbai. Her date of birth is June.9th 1985. She is the niece of producer Boney Kapoor, actor Sridevi, actor Sanjay Kapoor and producer Sandeep Marwah.

Soonam Kapoor’s Education-

Soonam Kapoor has done her schooling at the Arya Vidya Mandir School in Juhu – Mumbai. Then she enrolled for collegiate studies in the United World College of East Asia to do International Baccalaureate. She also studied in University of East London with major subjects in Political Science and Economics. She is also a well-trained classical dancer in Kathak and Latin dance forms.

Soonam Kapoor’s career in films-

Soonam Kapoor tryst with the films started when she worked as an assistant director for Sanjay Leela Bansali during the filming of the super hit movie – “Black” that starred Amitabh Bachhan and Rani Mukerjee. At first, Soonam Kapoor was not interested in acting but was more attracted towards making her career in direction and writing. However, Sanjay Leela Bansali was so confident of her acting skills that she casted her in his film – “Saawariya” in 2007. This film was also the launching pad for Randhir Kapoor – Son of Rishi Kapoor & Neetu Singh. However, the film flopped at the box office, but Soonam Kapoor received critical acclaim for her performance in that film.

Soonam Kapoor’s other films-

In the year- 2009, Soonam Kapoor appeared in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi -6 opposite Abishek Bachchan. The film did not do well at the box office, even though Soonam Kapoor’s performance was well appreciated by the critics. Soonam Kapoor first box office success came with the movie – “I Hate Luv Storys” opposite Imran Khan in the year -2010 that was declared a super hit movie. After that she again got a role in the romantic comedy film “Aisha” opposite Abhay Deol but her performance failed to live up to expectations.

In the year -2011- Soonam Kapoor got into her film kitty, films like –“Thank you”, “Mausam” with co-stars Bobby Deol, Shahid Kapoor. However, “Mausam” received critical acclaim for her role. Soonam Kapoor once again tried her luck with the film – “Players” alongside Abishek Bachhan for the year-2012 and received mixed response from the audience. This film did not do well at the box office.

Soonam Kapoor received the following film awards during the course of her career spanning over a decade in the film industry and these awards are-

Film fare Awards – She was nominated for the Best Female Debut for the film – “Saawariya”- 2008-

Screen Awards – She was nominated as the Most Promising New Comer, Jodi no.1 with Ranbir Kapoor for the film – “Saawariya.”-2008.

Zee Cine Awards – Nominated for the Best Female Debut for the film – “Saawariya”-2008 and again in 2012, nominated as the International Icon under Female category.

Star Dust Awards – Shewon the Superstar of Tomorrow in the Female category for the film – “Saawariya” in 2008. In 2012, she was again nominated under the category of Best Comedy/Romance Actress for the film – “Thank You”.

Asian Film Awards – Soonam Kapoor was nominated under the category of the Best Debutante – Female- for the film – Delhi 6 in the year – 2010.

IIFA Awards – She wasnominated under the category of Star Debut of the year – Female- for the film – “Saawariya” in the year-2008.

Soonam kapoor is also the brand ambassador representing India for L ‘Oreal’ Group the world’s largest cosmetics and beauty company and appeared as their representative at 64th Cannes Film Festival in the year- 2011.
