Sonam Kapoor to play a politician
Sonam Kapoor, known as Bollywood’s fashion icon, was seen as a political activist in ‘Raanjhanaa’ last year. But, according to reports, she is about to be seen in a full-fledged politician’s role in an untitled film based on a book by Anuja Chauhan, called ‘Battle For Bittora’. She will be featuring a strong female lead of the protagonist, named Sarojini or Jinni (as in the book).
The story is about a love relationship between two budding politicians, where the duo — despite being in love — contest against each other in the elections.
Sonam is said to be a fan of Anuja’s books and also admires the author’s strong, female characters, including Zoya Solanki from ‘The Zoya Factor’.
Sonam’s father, veteran actor Anil Kapoor, will be producing the movie, which will go to the floors around September-October this year.
According to reports, the male lead actor has not been finalized yet and the names of Imran Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sidharth Malhotra are doing the rounds.
A source close to the actor said, “Anil Sir has already roped in two writers — Parvez Shaikh and Jasmeet Rei — to begin work on the screenplay.”
This will be the actress’s third film based on a book, after ‘Saawariya’ and ‘Aisha’.
Sonam began her career in Bollywood with assisting director Sanjay Leela Bhansali on his film, ‘Black’, in 2005. She made her acting debut in 2007 with Bhansali’s romantic film, ‘Saawariya’, against Ranbir Kapoor. Although the film did not do well at the box-office, Sonam’s performance earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award.
The actress later featured in the off-beat drama film, ‘Delhi-6’, in 2009 and got her first commercial success with the romantic comedy, ‘I Hate Luv Storys’, in 2010. After this, she was seen in two successful movies in 2013 — ‘Raanjhanaa’ and the critically acclaimed biographical sports film, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’. Sonam earned praises for her role in ‘Raanjhanaa’ and was nominated for Best Actress in several award ceremonies, while ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ is her biggest commercial success till date.
Besides acting, Sonam also supports numerous charities and causes and is a well-known celebrity endorser for brands and products. She has acquired international recognition as a spokesperson for the French beauty brand, L’Oréal.
The glamour girl has got acknowledgment as a ‘fashionista’ and praise for her unique sense of style and, as a result, received attention from international designers.
