Sonam, Aishwarya, Freida- who stole the show at Cannes?
In 2003 Aishwarya Rai made her splendid debut at the Cannes Film Festival and paved the way for our very own Indian beauties to charm the French Riviera. Aishwarya has been attending Cannes for 13 years now. Other than Ash, India’s youth style icon Sonam Kapoor has made her presence felt at Cannes in recent years. There was even some friction between the two because Sonam felt Aishwarya was taking the spotlight away from her. This year’s Cannes was becoming much anticipated as everyone was interested to see who would steal the show and if two of them were not enough Freida Pinto of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ fame was also slated to appear, making it something of three way contest.
Unfortunately for Aishwarya, she could not be present at the opening of the ceremony due to a flight delay. This left the field wide open for Sonam who scored a winner on the very first day. She appeared on the red carpet during the screening of the film, ‘The Homesman’ and stunned everyone in a vintage black couture gown. The fabulous gown was designed by Ellie Saab. Interestingly, Ellie Saab is also the favorite of Aishwarya. Not just the gown but Sonam’s faux bob hair also received praise. Sonam later attended an event organized by L’Oreal, the famous brand she endorses. This time too she chose an Ellie Saab creation, a beautiful red dress. She matched the dress with pony tail hair and gold earrings. Altogether her look was simple yet very elegant. If two awesome appearances were not enough for her, Sonam decided to stun everyone for the third time in a designer sari from Anamika Khanna. She also wore a beautiful neckpiece from her mother’s collection.
By this time Frieda Pinto has already arrived on the scene. She was first seen on the red carpet in a Michael Kors feathered gown. The response she got was mostly positive. She made another appearance on the red carpet and this time she was in a red and gold gown by Oscar de la Renta. So far this has been her best look ever but it is unlikely that she will go past Sonam this year.
Since her late arrival in Cannes, we are yet to see
Aishwarya on the red carpet. She did however appear for a photo shoot. She was
seen in a printed blazer with white denims and designer shoes, all created by
Roberto Cavalli and looked really classy. It remains to be seen whether she
will gift us with more breath talking appearances. However, on a personal note I
think Aishwarya looked stunning in Cannes so far and she is the winner by a
