Singer Mahendra Kapoor passed away

Fans bade last adieu to legendry singer Mahendra Kapoor who passed away on Saturday evening at his residence, Bandra in Mumbai. He was survived by his three daughters and son Rohan Kapoor. The funeral was held at 11.00 am on Sunday at the Santa Cruz crematorium, five Kilometers away from his residence. He was not keeping in good health for a long time and visited hospital very frequently. Tears rolled by the eyes of his dear ones as his son Rohan lit the pyre.

Though he was away from the recording studio and glitz and glamour of Bollywood for a long time due to severe heart problems and dysfunction of kidney, he at the backdrop always appreciated the new talents and the changing scenario of music. When any patriotic song strikes our ear, the first name that comes to our mind is of Mahendra Kapoor. He mesmerized one and all with the song Mere desh ki dharti sona ugle. The other songs that will always remind us about his marvelous singing and makes us feel his presence are Bharat Ka rahnewala hoon (Purab Aur Paschim), Ab Ke baras (Kranti), Chalo ek baar phir se (Gumrah), Neele gagan ke tale (Humraz) and the long list goes on.

Music director C Ramchandra discovered this singing gem and gave him his first break with Aadha hai chandrama raat aadhi. In long years of his singing career, Mahendra Kapoor sung with almost all the popular music directors and received acclamation and lots of love from his fans. He was the voice behind the title song of Mahabharat. He bagged many filmfare awards and the highest being the Civilian Award, the Padmashree.
