Shilpa Shetty gracefully turns another year older
Shilpa Shetty’s – Her past credentials-
Shilpa Shetty as we know of her today as a successful model/actor and an entertainer all rolled into one was born on 8th June-1975 in a traditional bunt community in Mangalore. She is the eldest daughter of Surendra and Sunanda Shetty and her father – Surendra Shetty is an entrepreneur with a business of manufacturing tamper proof caps for pharmaceutical industry.
Shilpa Shetty’s Education-
Shilpa Shetty attended her schooling at St. Anthony’s Girls’ High school in Chembur – Mumbai and done her collegiate at Podar College in Matunga – Mumbai. She used to be very active during her school and college days in various extracurricular activities. She was the captain of her volleyball team in school. She is a Black Belt Holder in Karate and excelled in Bharatanatyam – a South Indian dance form.
Shilpa Shettys’ modeling career-
Shilpa Shetty started very early as a model at the young age of 16 and modeled for Limca (A soft drink beverage brand owned by Coca Cola –India) in 1991. With a good height of around 5 feet 10 inches, she is one of the tallest actors of Indian cinema. She was a successful model and that paved her way into the bollywood film industry.
Shilpa Shetty’s cinematic career-
Shilpa Shetty as a successful model attracted the attention of some of the famous directors of bollywood and her first film debut was opposite Shahrukh Khan in “Baazigar” in the year-1993. The film received very well in box office and launched her cinematic career. She received her nomination for Film fare Best Supporting Actress Award for this film in which she took the role of the supporting actress as a women named –Seema- who is murdered by her psychopath boyfriend. With super success of “Baazigar”, she was flooded with acting roles from directors and producers from across India.
Shilpa Shetty’s subsequent career in Films-
With the success of her launch pad cinema – Baazigar – she was offered her first leading role for the film – Aag in 1994 that was an average hit but she had a hit in the same year with the film “Main Khilari Tu Anari” alongside Akshay Kumar. She has her dose of films that were either average to poor performance at the box office. Her other films included-
Aao Pyar Karen – 1995
Hatkadi – alongside Govinda, Saif Ali Khan, Madoo – 1995
Auzaar – 1997- alongside Salman Khan and Sanjay Kapur
Pardesi Babu – 1998 – Won the Bollywood Movie Award for the Best Supporting Actress Role.
Dadhkan -2000 – a major hit at the box office.
Rishtey -2002 – Received the nomination under the Film fare Best Supporting Actress and Best Comedian Category Award.
Garv -2004 – Acted opposite Salman Khan.
Phir Milenge – 2004- Received critical acclaim for portraying a sensitive character as a sufferer of HIV. She acted opposite Salman Khan.
Fareb – 2005- In this film, she starred opposite her sister Shamita Shetty.
Life in a Metro – 2007 – This film became the first Bollywood film to be premiered at Leicester Square
Apne – 2007 – The star cast included Dharmenda, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.
Shilpa Shetty also dabbled in regional films in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Kannada films with successive hits.
Shilpa Shetty is deeply involved in philanthropic projects such as supporting Aids project and is a supporter of PETA – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. She has her list of controversies that started with the Celebrity Big Brother – A television series where she was the target of racism and bullying. As to her personal life, she married Raj Kundra a businessperson on 27 November -2009 and gave birth to a baby boy on 21 May-2012.
