Shilpa Shetty conferred with Doctorate from Leeds University in UK
Shilpa Shetty made an impact in the UK with her performance in the UK based reality show ‘Big Brother’. Since then Shilpa has been honoured and respected by many of her fans in the UK. The actress whose bollywood career was on a downward spiral has once again resurfaced. Recently the actress launched her perfume in the UK and she will soon be launching her fashion line too. Recently Shilpa was also in the UK for the opening of the IIFA along with brand ambassador Amitabh Bachchan. Now as a token of further respect for the actress and her contribution to UK, the Leeds Metropolitan University has conferred Shilpa Shetty with a Doctorate. So it will now be Dr. Shilpa Shetty.
Shilpa is thrilled and honoured to accept the Doctorate from one of the countries that she considers extremely dear and she is also one of the youngest Indian’s to be conferred with the award. Shilpa says “It came as huge surprise for me. But I am really humbled and I accept it.” Shilpa has been conferred with the doctorate for her contribution to cultural diversity and good relations between the people of UK and India. Other Indian stalwarts who have been conferred with the doctorate include Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Yash Chopra. The bollywood actress has many plans set in the UK, she will soon be seen in a Broadway musical, there were talks of the actress buying an apartment out there as she frequently visits the country and also perhaps because she may eventually open up a chain of restaurants in the UK.
Shilpa was recently seen in films like Metro and Apne. And though the films were just average in critical appreciation, Shilpa Shetty continues to hold her place in the hearts of her UK fans. Shilpa claims that being awarded the doctorate puts an added responsibility of bridging the gap between UK and India; she says “it’s going to be a lifelong relationship. I have tried my best. At the moment I am basking in the glory.”
