Shamita smooches for success

Shamita ShettyShamita Shetty certainly believes in lip service.

Although her gentle peck in 'Mohabbatein' failed to rouse passions, a steamier effort in 'Bewafa - The Unfaithful' should make amends.

Shamita will smooch Manoj...
...Bajpai for Dharmesh Darshan's film starring Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Sushmita Sen and Kareena Kapoor. Actress Shilpa Shetty's younger sibling however warns against reading too much into her on-screen chemistry with Bajpai.

"Every girl in the industry wants the sex symbol tag. But let me clarify why I did the kissing scene in the first place. I had no idea about it when I signed the film. It was only at the last moment that Dharmeshji asked if I was willing to kiss in front of the camera."

"Dharmeshji has a big reputation as director and I trust his judgement. I knew that if a scene was being added, it had to be in the larger interest of the film. I therefore agreed to do it. And believe me, the sequence was shot so beautifully that when you see us kissing on screen, it won't look vulgar at all," she insists.

But even while eulogizing about the artistic merits of her lip-lock, Shamita admits she may not have had much say in the matter.

According to her: "I really don't feel comfortable doing kisses or bedroom scenes in films. But if the script demands it, who am I to refuse? Sometimes we are so helpless. Otherwise not many actresses would want to be seen in barely-there outfits and provocative poses."

The 'Sharara girl', who is doing a guest appearance in the film, wants to give credit where it's due. "A lot also depends on the actor you are paired with. Luckily for me, Manoj was really cooperative in 'Bewafa'," she gushes.

Despite her bold moves, Shamita doesn't think she will be a threat to sister Shilpa anytime soon. "It has taken her a number of successful films to establish herself. I on the hand am still struggling. The day I become as mature as Shilpa, only then would I think of myself as a rival. But that is still a long way off," she quips.

As for her link-up with Aftab Shivdasani, Shamita hotly denies it. "He's just a good friend. We spend time together and this has given people the chance to talk nonsense about our relationship," she says.
