Shahrukh, Preity, Juhi, Sakshi Dhoni in action at IPL 7
The Indian Premiere League was born in 2008 amidst a lot of buzz. It promised never before seen mixture of cricketing action featuring the best of world cricket, celebrity glamour and corporate power. Though traditionalists raised some doubts about its impact on the game of cricket, the masses were fascinated with it and soon IPL became the world’s most watched twenty20 cricket league. IPL has seen unprecedented involvement of Bollywood celebrities for a non-film event. From owning teams to cheering for their favorite teams, the celebs are right in the middle of the action. New celebrities are also born at the IPL. Take Sakshi Dhoni (wife of M S Dhoni) who has become one of the most recognizable cricketer wives in the planet. Though some matches of the 2014 edition have been shifted to UAE because of the general elections taking place in India, the glamour quotient most likely will not go down.
Wives and Girlfriends
Thanks to the IPL, people are not only watching their cricketing heroes in action but have been introduced also to their better halves too. Leading this pack is of course, Sakshi Dhoni, wife Chennai Super Kings and Indian team skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. From the opening dinner to the matches, her bright presence is always noted. Preethi Narayanan, wife of R.Ashwin is also making her presence felt this year. She was seen cheering her husband’s team during the match between Chennai and Delhi.
Madhuri Dixit and Deepika Padukone
There was no grand opening ceremony this year instead an opening dinner event was held for IPL. But it was no mundane affair as Madhuri Dixit, one of the most celebrated Bollywood divas of all time made an appearance along with current reigning queen of Bollywood, Deepika Padukone. They joined Shahrukh Khan on stage and danced to some popular songs. Everyone at the gathering seemed to enjoy their presence.
King’s XI Punjab co-owner, Preity Zinta has been one of the most prominent celeb faces in the IPL. During the previous seasons, she kept up her famous smile even if her team did not perform well. But thanks to a good start this year by Punjab, her smile has become broader and more infectious than ever. She was seen posing with her cricketers, Miller and Maxwell for photos after they chased and won against tough opponents, Chennai Super Kings.
The biggest celeb deeply associated with the IPL is definitely
Kolkata co-owner, Shahrukh Khan. He regularly attends the team’s matches and
this year is no exception. He even missed the important IIFA awards this year
and instead went to the match between Kolkata and Punjab. Though his team lost,
he was upbeat and looked forward for better results.
